1 recommendation sought, 1 'keep an eye out for me'.

A) Who can name be a brand/model of keyboard/mouse arm they like? I need more than just a drawer - I'm set up with the monitor at the end of one leg of the L of my cube desk, not in the bend - and I need it to hold the mouse as well as the KB. I'm seeing prices in the Staples catalog from $120-$350 and I really can't tell what's any good.

and now for something completely different.
B) growing up, when corn-on-the-cob season rolled around, we always had a butter-applying device the likes of which I just can't find anymore: It looks kinda like a chimney and worked kinda like a deoderant applicator - it was about the 'diameter' of a stick of butter, and about half the length. You put the butter in it, put in the bottom 'press' in and then push the butter up to the top, where you'd rub it against the corn. (The top end had a cob-shaped notch in it for easy application.) When you were done, there was a little lid to keep the butter covered.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Have you seen them in the gadget store near you? Do you want to buy me one or 2 or 3 and I'll pay you back? Let me know!

Thanks!

This thing?

Thanks...

That, too, is it.

Maybe they're just not popular in New England??

If you're willing to buy separate keyboard and mouse thingies, I have and very much like this:
http://www.cyberguys.com/templates/Shopping_cart.asp?s=SC&add=Y
It's cheap, it's made entirely of steel (so it's not at all flimsy!), and ti clamps onto a desk edge (up to about 3.5" thick desks). It puts the mousing surface about 2" below the bottom edge of the desk (this is a fixed height). It pivots around the clamp point, and the wrist rest pivots independently of the mousing surface.

For the other, my parents had the same widget in a different form factor- but it came from Tupperware. Keep it in mind in case you're desperate, I suppose...

Crap, I thought I checked that URL. Try this one?

(If that's not it, it's called "Swing Out Mouse Desk".)

What you found looks like the keyboard-and-mouse version of what I have, and it's probably pretty good too.

dunno about the special butter applying device but I've found that a fork makes a better butter spreader than a knife cuz the butter will remain wedged between the tines even after it no longer sticks.

[identity profile] jim-p.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, funny, I always used a fork when I was a kid myself.

A total geek alternative would be a spray bottle filled with melted butter...

you want one that lets you adjust the height of both...

Check tupperwear, they sometimes have kiosks in the local Malls. I know I have seen a tupperwear seller at the Natick mall.

[livejournal.com profile] fizzygeek and I found you a butter applicator. Emailed you about it. No answer. Emailed again. No answer. Gave up. Hmph.

This was right after we had dinner with you when you were in the DC area
with the Cirque. You mentioned the butter dispenser then, and we found
one shortly thereafter, took
a picture, and emailed you about it. The web server says the picture was uploaded November 2004.

I've seen 'em at a favorite apple orchard of mine. I'll be in that general area this weekend. If you want me to pick one up, which admittedly I can't guarantee owing to time constraints but I wanted to head there anyways, please let me know.

[identity profile] jbsegal.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, please. Actually, I'd like 2, assuming they're no more than $2.50 ea.

For the corn, I've always liked the corn dish thingies....slather with butter and seasoning and can keep rolling the ear of corn in it as needed :) Or a slice of bread works well in a pinch :)

[identity profile] amberwood.livejournal.com 2005-07-08 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I see Amsra beat me to it. We just used a piece of bread slathered with butter or the corndish method. However, I have seen the buttering devices too. Looks like someone might be sending you some but if I find any I'll ship them your way.
