Short pre-bed DC Cirque update...
Sep. 17th, 2004 02:39 amI've got most of a Boston wrap-up sitting on the laptop waiting for a house with a network... In the mean time:
I'm here, staying (with
kimberlogic) at
hammercock's parents' place while they're off on vacation.
The DC site's on the grounds of RFK Stadium. The Metro is about...50y away from the tent. When there's no music, it's quite noticable.
The space is very long-and-thin... especially behind the fence.
There seem to be 4 other followers in the house crew, including one who took Boston off. (Not counting the one who's been following for (3 years now, I think??), is in charge of the outside crew and gets a radio.)
There's at least one other LJ User there -
blankkittyblack, but it's mostly a friends-only journal.
Dress rehersal was Weds night, and was also press night and freebies for sponsors/suppliers/lots of noisy kids night. It went... ok. (Very empty house, not surprisingly... 35%?
Tonight was premiere. Very full house - 99+%. It went amazingly smoothly, considering.
Why the HELL can't people arrive at a show like this on time??? We had something like 30-50 people come in our door (1 of 8) in the 20m after the show started.
It seems the house staff was short tonight - that some people couldn't be bothered to come in for their 1st or 2nd night of work. Oy.
Me, I'm on all this week (Weds dress, Thu Premiere, Fri single show (8pm), Sat/Sun double shows. I'm working (as are all the followers) all 6 days next week - which should be about 36 hours, as Thu is a single show next week.
The Russian Swings guys have a new bit in the routine.
Octavio (the Juggler) is doing ok, though not perfectly.
One of the Meteor kids seems to be having a bit of a hard time.
The new "Lightbulb" is still good, though he still needs to get a bit smoother.
Drive time so far's been 40-45m south and 30-35m back. Seeing as it's something like 35miles here to there, that's not bad. Considering it was only about 8mi from home to Suffolk Downs and that was 25m by car... There we have the origins of the "Camberville Problem" in a nutshell...
Anyway... Bed time.
More later.
