Hey, [livejournal.com profile] forgotten_aria! Call your office... Telephone pictionary's been packaged!

So, 99% of all board game money sucks. The last 1%? It sucks somewhat less.

I want high quality replacements. I want hundreds of thousands of dollars of near-banknote-quality bills... they should probably NOT be made with Crane's US currency quality paper, or at least not with the red and blue security threads, or the mylar strip. A watermark would be nice.

They should be artistically designed, perhaps using design elements from many famous games, or maybe just abstract art.

Does anything even CLOSE to this exist?

Does anyone want to make it exist? :)

I only need something accurate to 1/32th of an inch... but I need to measure mah jong tiles to find replacements... and I've discovered that this company (Royal Depth Control (what a name!)) made sets in:
7/8 x 1 1/4 x 15/32
7/8 x 1 1/4 x 7/16
27/32 x 1 7/32 x 1/2
27/32 x 1 1/4 x 7/16
7/8 x 1 1/4 x 1/2
7/8 x 1 7/32 x 1/2
7/8 x 1 1/4 x 7/16
7/8 x 1 7/32 x 7/16
27/32 x 1 7/32 x 1/2
27/32 x 1 7/32 x 7/16
7/8 x 1 7/32 x 1/2
...

Given the weather, the closer the better. :)
(Ok, I suppose if I'm getting in to the car, it doesn't matter if it's super close... but still.)

So, I've gotten a bunch of new games recently, as well as having a pile I've not had a chance to play recently.

Is anyone interested in coming over tonight and playing games?

I'm thinking of something around 7ish.

PLEASE reply here, and check back on this post to see if it's happening. If I get no replies, or only 1 or 2, I may decide to go to a movie or something else.

CURRENT STATUS: Ok. Let's do this.
HOWEVER: I'm reminded that Laurie is sick. She's not hacking/sneezing/spewing up phlegm, but she's not healthy (IE: I expect she's not contagious, but I can't promise)... Sorry I'd forgotten that.

So, some many years ago, a small Quebec game company - probably one guy and his friends - made a game called Obol. It's a sphere, half covered in velcro squares, with red and blue double-sided velcro 'checkers' ('male' on one side, 'female' on the other).

The basic game play was
Scatter the pieces randomly over the surface of the sphere.
Randomly remove one.
(Who goes 1st? The one you just removed, or the other player?)
Moves are as in checkers, but when you jump over an opponent piece, you capture it by sticking it to the underside of your piece.

Stacks keep growing, but when you jump over an opponent's stack, you only capture the top piece.

What's the winning condition?

Are captures mandatory?

What's a non-capture move?

Did I miss anything?

(I can post a picture, if you'd like.) (Or look at http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/5962 - but there aren't rules there...)
