So, I discovered that hammercock got her car back because:

She came home. I was siting in the living room, but she didn't want to disturb me because I was on the phone. To be precise, I was on my T-Mobile Cellphone, talking to dancingdeer on her AT&T Cellphone.

Laurie therefore sat down at her computer, all of 12' from where I was sitting and wrote up the above post. Joanne read that post (on her laptop, via wireless) and said "Hey! Laurie has her car back." to me. I said to Laurie - still all of 12' away - "You have your car back?" and then related the path that data had taken to get to me.

Ah, technology.

My old (early '90s) stories of having a conversation with someone in the same room via a server in another country are getting somewhat passé these days.

I sat at breakfast yesterday and pulled out my laptop to edit a paper. Because there's wireless everywhere on campus except the dorms, I started reading livejournal, and read a post by someone on my hall saying she was heading to breakfast. I told everyone there to expect her.

It was scary. And kind of sad.
