(Bcc to my LJ, hence the bit of LJ markup)

So, today my cell rang. I didn't recognize the number, but I'm out of
work and can't piss off potential employers.

It was someone calling from 'Lower Shore Enterprises, Inc.', which is, it
seems, an organization that provides "Award-winning Training and
Employment Placement Services for Workers with Disabilities" (according
to www.lowershoreenterprises.org )

They're located on the 'Lower Shore' of the DelMarVa peninsula, but
they're going to be expanding their scope to beyond that and so a name
with 'Lower Shore' in it will seem somewhat provincial.

So they want a new domain name and he found me and LSE.org

Now, Quasi ([livejournal.com profile] lapsedagnostic) and I named our house The
Laboratory For Social Experimentation when he moved in in '92. Many
people remember the 22oz stadium cups we had printed for our
housewarming. I'll update this with the slogan on them when I'm
downstairs tomorrow...my foot's not up to the extra trip right now.

A couple of years later, when Q'd moved out, and Kimberly
([livejournal.com profile] kimberlogic) and Ted ([livejournal.com profile] tcb) had moved in, we
registered the domain. In that time, we've received one other offer on
the name, which never got followed up on, and the occasional misdirected
email for the London School of Economics (lse.ac.uk, of course).

The guy on the phone was very polite and nice and so we talked for a
while. As I'm a domain reseller (via OpenSRS) (https://www.lse.org/sysgrp
), I gave him some background on the domain biz and did some lookups
while we were on the phone. .info, .us, .biz are all taken. I failed to
think of a good other top level country code and we discussed the
practicality of A) tlds that are not in the auto-complete range of IE
and B) that are longer. (I think both are fine. The 2nd's an issue if
you're going for radio commercials. I still don't know how to spell
Landry and Arcari (If I got it right, it's an accident.))

In the end, I noted that lseinc.org is available. He'll probably go for
it.

It was an amusing 20 minutes. I wish him well, and if I'm ever in
Salisbury, MD, I'll go look him/them up.
