One of the best meals of my life.
Jan. 23rd, 2003 06:49 pmI've been meaning to post this for a while.
I found the slip of paper today and finally remembered to bring it in with me.
So, in 5/99, I went on a whirlwind 4-country-in-9-day business trip for Interleaf.
It was going to be shorter than that, but I was stuck in Main-Tannus-Zentrum, outside Frankfurt, for 2.5 days longer than planned thanks to UPS and the customs depts of US and Germany.
After I finished in the burbs, it was Friday late afternoon. I decided to spend Friday night in town and leave Frankfurt mid-afternoon Saturday, seeing a bit of the town that I'd been so near.
Looking through the tourist papers, I found that the Arabella Sheraton Grand Hotel (Konrad-Adenauer-Strasse 7, www.arabellasheraton.de) had a really great weekend rate going, so I booked and got a cab.
It's a very nice hotel.
It was late enough that I didn't bother looking for a nearby local restaurant, I just ate in the main hotel restaurant.
Win.
The dinner cost DM170 - about $100 at the time - and was worth it.
It went as follows:
Gin & Tonic
Cream Soup Of Asparagus served with Balik Salmon Strips
Salad "Mimosa" of White Asparagus served with Venison Ham and Tuscany Olive Oil
Roasted Saddle of Venison Served with Sweetbreads, potato crepe and kohlrabi.
Port (no, I didn't note whose. It was very good, but not superb.)
Chocolate Tart with Wild Cherry Sauce and (I failed to note the flavor) Ice Cream
It was the 1st time I'd ever had sweetbreads and I was quite pleasantly surprised.
And the service was excellent. :)
