Me too, but why do you hate them? It hardly seems likely that anyone has tried to inflict one on you...

I think I kinda like them, in a hott, slightly JAP-y way. But that's just me.

I'm sort of drawn to them, but I'm not sure why...

I never get them (I never get any sort of manicure), but I want to touch women who do.

That sounds like an invitation to tie you down, and give you a manicure...

I took me about 10 minutes of searching to figure out what a french manicure is. The number of places that sell french manicure products without explanation...

so don't get one? :)

so?

I think they only look hideous on women with long fake nails - then they only look dumb and trashy like long fake nails almost always do

*shrug* so where did you see this french manicure that offended you so? :-p

Hee hee. I'd want to watch that.

I've had exactly one manicure in my life (for my brother's wedding). They kind of spook me on other women, too. So yeah! French manicures weird, not sexy.

i had a manicure for fun to see if i'd like it once... and EEAAUGHHH! *squick* it just TOTALLY made my skin crawl (the cutting off bits of my skin, stabbing things under my fingernails... not that it was uncomfortable, they were gentle, but apparently i just should NOT do manicures.)

i'm with you, i think they're hideous. i hate superlong nails on anyone, too, but a french manicure, any length, just creeps me the hell out. the worst part is that out here, most of the women who have them are filipino (the town next to mine is 45% filipino! lots of extraordinarily beautiful women...), but the colors they use don't seem to get adjusted, so they look particularly obvious and unnatural against their skin tone.

Hrm. I like getting manicures now and again, especially since they manage to make my short and ratty nails look reasonable - and can put nailpolish on me without making a mess.

Of course I'm not big on long nails - you can't wrench and have long nails ;>

i have exceedingly short nails (i play the violin) but i had never pushed back my cuticles, and i don't think i want them pushed back. they're there for a reason.

it would be nice to have nail polish put on me though -- i'm ok at applying it to my left hand, but not the right...

Heh! That's actually one of the reasons why I've always had short nails, too! Small world ;>

I've grown up pushing my cuticles back with my fingernails, so it's not really an awkward thing in that respect - and by and large a manicure reduces the number of hang nails that I get, which is a definate blessing!

It takes all sorts though - and there are certainly things [like waxing! *YOUCH*] where once was quite enough!

Yeah, I noticed that. Wonder why...

Not that you need to defend them, but I'm curious: Why?

And maybe it's the JAP-y essence that clings to them that bothers me. (I'm guessing 'hott' is a typo?)

Hm...

As I say in the followup post to this one, it's not manicures in general that bother me, so if you and xeger want to come over here and force one upon me, we can talk about it. :)

i think that (when done well) they do a nice job of accenting what's really there rather than painting over it entirely? I'm not much of a makeup/nails/etc person, but that's generally what i like. (accenting, i mean)

Hm. Maybe it's just that I never notice the good ones and only see the ugly ones? I don't know...

I like short neat french manicures on natural nails with an off or nail colored tip and a very rich pink healthy looking color for the base.

I think it's an art. If someone took out an airbush kit to do it at the nail salon, that's just wrong. I generally wear my nails natural though.
