...not 'Want to hear something funny' fun...

(This post made without benefit of the <LJ User="foo"> tag.)

So, a few days ago, Cos posts in his Music journal about DaVinci's Notebook coming to Club Passim tonight.

I think about it. Maybe.

Today, Kimberly asks what I'm doing tonight. I say I don't know...there's music @passim but I'm being unsure. I really shouldn't be spending the money, but I say 'maybe' and keep thinking about it.

Later, Laurie mentions that she's going.

I keep thinking about it.

Around 8pm, Joanne sends me mail saying "Is Kimberly at the DVN (early) show? There was a pirate joke and the laughter included something that sounded like her. We're going to the 10pm show, btw.' I read this at 9ish.

I start to reply to the mail saying "Hm. I've been thinking about going. I wonder if there are still any seats available." and I decide to call the club before going any farther in the mail. It's 9:12. As I'm starting to dial my cell, it rings. It's Joanne, just saying hi.

"Hi", I say. The show's just getting out. I ask if she can poke her head in and find if there are any more seats. She says 'hold on' and a moment later comes back and says "You've got a seat". "Cool, see you soon!"

I get my helmet and bike gloves on and say "see you later" to Laurie, not telling her that I'll see her (and Santiago) in 15m or so. Seems funnier that way. ;)

I get to the club. There are Joanne and H*. There's Phiz. There's Sheeri. There's Andy Kaufman on his way out from the early show. There's TB. Joanne tells me it's in my name and goes in. Talking to TB while we wait, she's waffling about trying to get a seat for the late show. As we get to the desk, she decides to go in. This works for me as we end up getting half a table, instead of having to be at the non-table seats in the back.

Inside, also, are Raycho, Ben, Cos (waiting for Mike Bauer, who never shows up, and his seat gets taken by Erica), Pup - managing to get the seat of another no-show, and probably more I'm forgetting.

The show is fabulous. The opener is Sean Altman, formerly of Rockapella. He's really funny, has a great voice (not surprising, that) and a snotty attitude (in his songwriting) that's really..well...endearing. :)

As for DVN, I'd never seen them before, either. They're really great. Musically, they're really good, but not actually technically stunning. However, their patter, attitude, songwriting and improv skills more than make up for what (little) they're missing in vocal prowess.

They vamp constantly (including a nearly full-legnth version of "Come Sail Away"), they write great songs and can use the word "pudenda" in a song, they have LOTS of fun doing what they do, and all in all, I unreservedly recommend them to any and all.

All in all, a good evening. Yay. Thanks all - Especially Joanne - for tempting me to go.
