Summary: [a] Why can't you download comments along with entries EASILY?
Original Request:
I hope this isn't in the faqs anyplace - I didn't see anything but a note that the way to do this is to go through via the web and save each entry's page individually...

But this makes no sense to me. I mean, yes, obviously there's an interface to the DB to get each entry so that it can be edited, but why isn't there a (slightly more complex/expensive, yes) that will do the DB query for the entry and for the comments as well? Gods know that going through and hitting ~username/{entrynumber}.html does the same thing. Maybe you'd want to put a rate limiter on it, maybe make it a paid account-only sort of thing, but really, downloading my journal WITHOUT the comments is only vaguely useful.

Thanks!

JB, EAGERLY awaiting "subscribe to events", so that everything can be done in email. :)

How can I help?

Developers are currently working to determine if this feature is feasible and able to be implemented. There are many different factors that need to be taken into consideration before implementation, and this idea is being discussed and worked on. You may wish to visit http://www.livejournal.com/community/lj_dev to view discussions of various aspects of LiveJournal development.

Please note that because the majority of the LiveJournal development team consists of volunteers, there is no way to determine when or if this feature will be introduced. If you would like to help out with LiveJournal, please see the above FAQ for information on how to get started.

Quite honestly, while this is almost certainly a valid answer, it's really not helpful - it's along the lines of 'in a helecopter circling a building' (an old MS tech support joke). I'd prefer to know what the issues are.

Alternate to the original question: Is there any way to the list of urls for all my entries, as with that I can just feed it into a 'curl(1)' loop, pointing at my the right cookie file, and get the whole thing myself.

I really can't believe that its that hard a problem...of course, I'm not a coder, so I can't do it myself...I would if I could...
If you don't have an account you can create one now.
HTML doesn't work in the subject.
