[MWSD] Spinning Windmills
Oct. 19th, 2004 05:21 am10 couples. Dancing off of cards. 1 open and 5 carded tips. Singers on the 1st and last only. Average age: 65? Only 1 person in The Clothes.
Various notes I took:
from a wave: box counter rotate, Motivate = funky. Is there any reason to thing that the circulate of the rotated center 4 doesn't stay in the center box? I have a bit of instinct that says that the out-facing people should be circulating to the end of the (non-existent at that time) 4x2 column.
These folks also allemande by turning to face, clapping with their corner, and continuing on. I still don't like it, and neither does
As well, they Circle Four, Breakout to a Line without the 2 couples actually connecting with each other. Ick.
In attendance was Linda Silversmith who, it seems, danced with Tech starting 2 months after its founding.
Gary started the carded dances with a 45 that sounded an awful lot like "Baka", by Outback but which was labeled as being called "Right" (b/w "Wrong") on Rhythm Records (Also see this homepage). Must remember to ask Chris (Tech dancer, brother of Graham - ex-Outback (and Dr. Didj)) about this. It sure as heque looked like a pirate record to me. No author credit was given on the disc.
It seems that an A2 class had just recently finished and that, to a certain extent, Gary was calling to the class... not that this was a bad thing. He'd repeat sequences that caused breakdowns with additional queuing; he'd work with certain calls repeatedly in a given tip to drill it, and so on. At the same time, he wasn't calling boring material.
Tomorrow, I may well try to go to Kenny Farris' dance in Silver Spring, though I'm told that, while being single won't be much of a problem, not having The Clothes might be.
Ah well, I can always leave again. I'll drop Clark's name and recommendation when I arrive and see if that sways Mr. Farris.
It's very late. I need to sleep.
