Fuck. My back seems to have gone out on me.

Heat and NSAIDs aren't doing much of anything.

I didn't actually have to /crawl/ to the bathroom, but gods know that might have hurt less.

I'm about to call the Dr. but this is typically something there's nothing to be done about.

Sneezing isn't supposed to hurt like that...

and I'm /sick/ of lying on my back.

*very careful mental hugs*

I hope it gets better soon.
Let me know if there's anything I can do (errands?)...

I remember vividly the one occasion when this ever happened to me. It was about 8 years ago, and I still remember the pain like it was yesterday.

There wasn't anything to be done about it at the time other than waiting it out. My doctor didn't prescribe anything worthwhile; the only thing I think might have helped would have been narcotics, which they were naturally hesitant to prescribe.

I seem to recall that by the third morning, I was able to walk fairly soon after waking up -- the first two days, crawling was all I could manage, and even that was intensely painful.

I hope you feel better soon!

If your doctor is being useless, drop me a line for Dr.Jon's pager number. The stuff that helps will make you loopy, but if you're flat on your back anyway, you may as well feel better.

Line.....I'd like to at least chat with him...I suppose it's not urgent...I'm sore laying here, and bored, but it's not too bad pain-wise.

I threw out my back 3 years ago in an infamous occasion that would become known as the story of the Boston Babes Who Broke Boymeat... ask Sabrina about that one.

I went to the emergency room on the second day, because one movement would make me scream in anguish. He gave me pain killers and muscle relaxants. That really did the trick... it forced me to be on my back for a week, not do anything, and let my body deal with it, while allowing me to move here and there without wanting to die.

I must admit, the muscle relaxant were a hell of a trip too. Damn that stuff was strong.

You have my thoughts...

*hugs* I'm sorry it hurts so much, hon...let me know if I can do anything, okay?

Things that have worked for me for back pain: Chiropractic, massage, and acupuncture.

My back went completely out on me, no walking possible, three times over the past few years. It sounds very similar to what you're describing. I went to my doctor and got painkillers and muscle relaxants over and over and over, and eventually got sick of that. I'd tried one chiropractor who (1) made me feel worse both during and after and (2) told me I'd have to come in 3-4 times per week for at least six months to make any progress. So I was leery.

But then I got a recommendation, went to a different chiropractor, who did neither of those things. Her technique feels suspiciously like nothing more than lying there while she wiggles my foot, but it fixed me. In about five visits, which she said up front was about what it would take.

Since then, I went back to her once when I felt some twinges after sleeping on a couch for a week. She totally doesn't do the CHIROPRACTOR OWNS YOUR SOUL routine.

She has a totally laid-back practice where you can be seen really quickly. Same-day, sometimes. And her on-the-side avocation is poodle rescue, so there are occasionally puppies in the office.

So anyways: Dr. Rita Field, 617-576-6556. Her office is 872 Mass Ave, between Central and Harvard.
