why do you like it better? i've been trying to figure this out -- i never had a problem with the old interface, and i find the mouse-over-to-get-to-menus interface exceedingly awkward.
but i don't want to miss out if there are cool things i didn't figure out about it... what things make it work for you?
I agree, I don't like the pass it over with the mouse to find it menu. I also don't like the new default color scheme, maybe my monitor is too bright or something, but it hurt the first time I saw it. (Naturally I changed it immediately.)
Hover to find menus? (Some Javascript thing?) There's functionality there that I've not noticed (nor realized was missing) in the couple months I've been using the new skin?
Now I'm wondering what tools were supposed to be there.
Overall, I find the layout of the page "cleaner". Though the Lynx skin isn't bad, IIRC.
Single biggest plus: The use of the default user icon on most pages as an aid to seeing who you're logged in as.
2nd: the sidebar doesn't take up screen real estate anymore with stuff I almost never need to see.
3rd: I find the new menus more intuitive in layout than the old selection.
4th: I never liked the orange color scheme.
5th: The new one is MUCH MUCH better in links/lynx. Having everything show up at the bottom is better than having to scroll through it before getting to what you care about.
There's probably more, but that's what comes to mind.
That's really funny, since the number one reason it's pissing the hell out of me is that it completely fails to work in Konqueror. I like the color scheme better, but I have to use a different browser to see the menus at all. It also looks like crap in Mozilla.
Hm. What uglyness are you seeing in Mozilla? Although I usually work in Opera, I just pulled up Moz 1.4 and it seems fine. I can't imagine that they didn't test against Mozilla...
An old version (0.7), admittedly. My company, to ease on administrative costs, tends to stick with older versions of Red Hat until new ones are really and truly stable. So I'm running stock RHL 7.2, I believe.
:) I'm sure it works okay on all of the latest and greatest, but don't even get me *started* on that rant....
Hm. I was my experience with any version of mozilla less than .9x that it was so bug-laden as to be unuseable...I would be careful of dismissing things (sites) as non-working based on old mozilla builds.
(I {heart} opera/linux.)(Opera/mac is crap, however.)
...and since I usually use safari for LJ, since it's faster - but leave javascript off, because safari just doesn't have a decently granular security model... the new 'mouse over' menus don't exist for me.
I think the new look is more attractive - but anything that forces me to turn on javascript doesn't get points in my book.
I switched to it two or three days ago, so I missed the big kerfuffle over the change. I sometimes roll past the point I want, but that's because I have two different trackballs, one for work, one for home, and keep bobbling the techniques.
Forgive my responding to old posts, but I only recently found you :) *waves*
I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking, and things like roll-over menus SUCK. Dragon will happily follow any visible link with a simple voice command. If it's not visible, I have to resort to using my hands, which is BAD.

lynx-friendly but not necessarily linux-friendly...
