A meme I like, for y'all
Sep. 19th, 2003 12:40 amIt's been making the rounds. This version of the text taken from Vicka and Very Lightly Modified from there.
Add a comment to this journal telling me what you remember about first meeting me (online most certainly counts; if you have a choice between online and in person, I'll request the most amusing :-) I'll try to respond to each comment with my memories of you.
And, of course, if you like it, try it in your own journal.

Date: 2003-09-18 10:23 pm (UTC)And House Sable Swan was the quest.
I asked for your name. You wrote it for me, illegibly. It took years for me to actually find out what your last name was.
I still love that cape.

Date: 2003-09-18 11:14 pm (UTC)But the first meeting that I can recall, where you didn't fall into the mass of humanity, was at my first Baitcon, when you welcomed me to the site, standing on the lengthy driveway at the previous location.
And I had a wonderful time. 8^)

Glad you had fun.

Date: 2003-09-18 11:23 pm (UTC)We didn't have conference rooms or interview rooms. That would have been too "old economy." We were expanding too fast for that sort of thing. So I interviewed you in this windowless stub of a hallway that had doors to us, some other company, and the elevator lobby. There were no chairs, of course. You probably sat on the floor, and I probably tried sitting for a while, then gave up and paced.
I remember nothing about our interview, except exiting that stub of hallway, with a line like: "One more thing. Doesn't anyone confuse you with jailbait@apocalypse.org?"

Date: 2003-09-19 02:50 am (UTC)Being rotten with names and faces, I'm used to the "We must have met before and they must remember it better than I do." feeling, but this time I also had an additional helping of "What an incredibly cool welcome regardless!"
You made quite an impression (even if it might have possibly been a second one.

Date: 2003-09-19 06:17 pm (UTC)And everyone deserves such a greeting at baitcon. :)

Date: 2003-09-19 06:22 pm (UTC)And yeah, other than the fact that I was male and thus had no chance, I almost certainly was flirting with you.
I'm not going to answer this in your journal, you know. :)

Date: 2003-09-19 07:13 am (UTC)I was a budding teenage Pagan... You were Pan himself, hanging out at the flute-maker's. You must have seen a pentacle or button on me, because you said "blessed be." I was immediately yours.
We smooched by the juggling field until I had to go home with my parents. The rest is history.
Let's spend more time together. (hug)

Date: 2003-09-19 08:28 am (UTC)My biggest surprise upon meeting you was that you were so friendly, down-to-earth, and endearingly zany. I mean, lot of people with their own eponymous con or with a lot of ink in a scholarly treatise might be self-aggrandizing, insufferable jerks. It was very pleasant to discover just the opposite.

You are too kind in your descriptions of me. I'm not the writer to be able to be equally kind without sounding cheesy...that said, you're a fascinating and talented individual.

Date: 2003-09-19 08:46 am (UTC)The other first impressions of you seem overwhelmingly positive, but you managed to irk me immediately by saying a number of aggressively unpleasant things about square dancing and why you didn't want to try it- none of which, I might add, applied to Tech Squares :P
Then you finally showed up for the (Fun Night? First night of class? Were they different that semester? Probably, I guess, since it was IAP...) whatever-it-was at the beginning of the Spring 2003 squares class, and I remembered you (though I don't think I remembered that exact meeting at the time- I just remembered Sara talking about you). Most of our interactions for the duration of that class consisted of "Where the hell is Sara?" "I dunno, I haven't seen her, she never comes anymore, sigh". I spent most of that class trying to dance with and impart clue to the students who were struggling the hardest, and didn't really get to dance with you till the end when most of them had been told they weren't going to graduate and it occurred to me "hey! I could dance with someone I vaguely know, who can dance!"
