It's a Pismo.

It needs more memory, more disk and an airport card...but it's the 1st mac I've OWNED since I got my Mac Plus in '85.

It's running 10.3.2 and stuff.

I wish opera 7 were out for Mac, but Safari's pretty cool...now to figure out more hacks upon its carefully engineered character...

Yay. Happy (very belated) Birthday to me.

Ya know, I want one of those for my server box. (Well, that or a PowerBook G4, but those are still too expensive...)

Congratulations! Be one of us! Be one of us!

Very nice. Alex is still running her 8500 and that thing was built in what, 94? CPU upgrade card and memory and it runs OS/X just peachy.

Yay! The Pismo is a wonderful and highly versatile machine. It ought to be a long and satisfying experience. There's a couple good "old mac" forums out there. And you can find boodles of peripherals for sale on EBay at low prices. (Along with replacement parts if you need those too.) I was running my whole life and business off a Powermac 7100 and a Powerbook 3400 until last summer. And the only reason I ever upgraded to a G4 is because the graphics things that I do for fun need too much RAM, disk space, and USB peripherals. I still love my older generation macs. And the Powerbook 3400, though I don't need it any more, is still around and being loaned to halleyscomet so he can learn more about Mac system architecture. (The 7100 is currently looking for a good home. And failing one amongst friends, will be given to the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce for their computers for kids charity.)

There are a number of 3rd party cards that work, though the airport
is the only one that's entirely internal.

The pismo can go up to 1Gb in memory. at least 512Mb is recommended,
and you'll notice the speed improvement.

Get a 5400 rpm disk. Or a 7200rpm if you can find it. Oddly, they
seem to use less power than the stock 4200rpm disk.

you can get a G3/900 or G4/500 upgrade from powerlogix for ~ $329.
all reports on the net are that the G3/900 is the better choice.

The pismo really does seem to be the best laptop apple has produced in a while. Now if it were only 3lbs lighter....
