I made a hat.
It's made of Lion Woolease Thick And Quick Charcoal, changing to 2 strands of Reynolds Lopi 54, with a pattern from http://www.mielkesfarm.com/c_rib_ht.htm that I modified to a) fit better and b) actually work. I'll write up the modified pattern later.

Me, in my hat.

All of my crochet projects so far (including 2 more pictures of this hat, without me in it) (minus another hat I don't have pix of yet) are at http://www.lse.org/~jailbait/images/Crochet

Lovely!

Very nice. I'll have to get a picture from my sister of the hat I made for her, to match her snowboarding equipment.
Yours looks warmer... sometimes I wish I could work in wool, but the allergic reaction would make it not worthwhile.

Nice work!

So, this came up with Joanne recently, who finds she doesn't have an instant (touch) reaction to merino, and her housemate the knitter found this article: http://www.woolfestival.com/articles/THE%20WOOL%20INDUSTRY%20FACES%20A%20PRICKLY%20QUESTION%20ARE%20PEOPLE%20ALLERGIC%20TO%20WOOL.htm
One response so far has been: that's all well and good if you just have a skin reaction, but what about the respitory and other such problems...so now I'm asking people: Do you just have a skin reaction or is it worse that that, and if it IS just skin, can we experiment on you? :)

Sadly, for me it's not just a skin reaction, and the skin reaction happens even with cashmere... I'm allergic to down, cats, and occasionally dogs, too---all with a mild respiratory reaction and a strong skin reaction.

You'll have to let me/us know how it holds up in the wind. I love the hats I knit/crochet, but I've yet to make one to be entirely useful in the wind. :(

I bet if you made a felted hat, it would do well in the wind. Or, if you wanted the stitch definition on the outside, you could conceivably make a thrummed hat.

Yay, hat!

When we were moving the bedroom yesterday, I found some old photos from, oh, about 8 or 9 years ago -- including one of you looking adorable. :-)

Doesn't it feel great to start with this "not a hat" stuff, called yarn, and make it into a useful item?

I love it! congrads!

Excellent!!

Seems that lots of folks have recently been getting more into the weaving-related crafts. And please permit me to be slightly sexist in saying that it is *great* to see a guy doing so.

What size hook?

Hey there:
I love your work! Was wondering what size hook? The scarf looked like the stiches were pretty big, bet that worked up really fast. It looks the it is thick too, do you use more than one strand or yarn? Love the heart, need the pattern :) If you want to crochet locally a bunch of us gets together on Tuesdays in Malden. Let me know if you are interested.
