If you'd have suggested to me a year ago, when [livejournal.com profile] dancingdeer and I were about 5 weeks into the Tech Squares crash course, that I (and I think 'we') might want to spend a weekend in semi-rural NH doing all-square-dancing-all-the-time, I would have considered you to be nuts.

Why, my past self would have said, would I want to dedicate a whole weekend to this? Sure, I'm enjoying the class, but this really isn't my sort of dance. There's no live music, the swings are short, people don't like making eye contact...

What a difference a year makes...

Not that this is going to be my only dance form. There's nothing like the zen of contra. There's nothing like the REAL MUSIC of contra and ECD...but mwsd can be fun, at least as long as you've got a good caller with good taste in music and a club that doesn't make you wear The Clothes!.

The Tech Squares weekend was a lot of fun. It was like a con, and yet it wasn't. It was like Baitcon, and yet very different. I got more sleep than I often do at cons, yet I was far more exhausted at the end since I spent most of my waking hours dancing.

A fun time was had. Not much of a 'weekend away' w/Joanne, but still, quite a fun time.

Yup, my mom has "the clothes" and they are a sight to be behold! The guy's bit is merely a "cowboy" style shirt with coordinating-with-the-gal's color on the shoulders, but the gal's outfit is a skirt o-u-t-t-o-t-h-e-r-e that swing up to show knee-length ruffled bloomers every time your twirl.

I can just imagine dancingdeer in an outfit like that!

I'm sure we could find you a delightful variation on The Clothes...

It's been my ambition for a while now to do something truly impressive along the lines of square dance outfits; ideally something that would freak out both sides, like, say, purple velvet and gold lame, and then wear them to, say, New England Convention. :P This is, of course, far down on the heap of sewing priorities, below office clothes and jeans and non-silly dance outfits, but someday it will happen because it suits my sense of chaos.
