This is actually a combo of the current randomized playlist and Lyrics Quiz memes.

I'll leave out the ones in languages I don't speak (which means it'll be english-only...)

This is the original version of the lyrics quiz - 1st line or 2, unless the song name's in those lines, and this is what's in my randomized playlist (currently picking from a 4060 song library).

  • 1: I've been up and I've been down and I've worn a paper crown. It didn't leave a single mark on me.

  • 18: She wore an S.E.G. when she came back home, like the cat that ate the canary. And I stood befuddled, a chauvanist stud, with his mistress quite contrary.
  • Z: {Instrumental: Hedningarna: Hedningarna - Polska Efter Hins Anders}
  • 19: We had spark and we had fire. Kisses that sizzled on our lips. Beatnik poets rolled their own. Rich folks had filter-tips.
    AND FINALLY!
  • 20: When Billy's whore are working... Well, they're working with a skeleton crew

Ok, I wasn't expecting that to take so long.

Hints and stuff later.

I expect feste_sylvian and ceo to do the best, knowing their tastes. I don't expect anyone to do particularly well.

My brain wants #1 to be an Oysterband song ... or maybe Richard Thompson but mostly my brain says Oysters ... weird.

3. This is What Love is for/Uncle Bonsai
7. Under Your Spell/Willow&Tara (want actress names and composer?)
9. Love Vigilantes (original New Order/cover (and better version) Oysterband
16. Sing/multiplet artists - the most notable I remember is oscar singing it with a bunch of kids once :)

given that you said you thought i'd only get one, i'm sort of curious which one you thought was the "one" ... and if you're surprised by the others that i did know ...

1: You are correct. Not that it's one you've ever heard, I don't think. You're good. :)
3: Yes, and almost
7: Yup. No, that's fine.
9: Of course. :)
16: Yep.

Somehow, my brain blanked on a couple that everyone would know (7 & 16), I didn't expect you to get 1, and I really should have known you'd get 3, too.

I plead losing track of what was on the list, in the 26 instrumental/non-english tracks.

6. If I were a carpenter (I don't know which version you have, but I'm partial to Johnny Cash's rendition)
7. Under Your Spell (Joss Whedon, sung by Amber Benson. I was JUST watching "Once More With Feeling" about an hour ago...)

9. Oysterband, "Love Vigilantes".
11. Oysterband, "Pigsty Billy".

You need to branch out a bit there, dude. :-)

Only 20 of the 292 albums are Oysters....
You'll not that there are 3 tracks from one Ad Vielle Que Porra album. Don't ask me to explain the Party Shuffle algorithm...

I went for random, that's what I got...

#6: "If I Were a Carpenter", artist hazy
#9 sounds familiar... New Order? "Bizarre Love Triangle"?
#12 is an old riff from a radio show, possibly Jack Benny's.

Feh. Neighbor is mowing their lawn with a very noisy machine, and I can't concentrate.

Yeesh. I have never heard any but 19, which is of course, "Sing a Song", which has been performed by every Sesame Street character over the course of the last 35 years. I don't know who the original was, though -- Helen Reddy maybe?
