So tonight was my 1st actual night WORKING a show.

There's not a whole lot to describe, I don't think.

Arrive. Don't get my badge. Hang out. Clock in (5m before official shift start, max.)

Eventually get collected with the other 5 outdoor ushers.

1st job for all of us: Distribute the bags of booster seats to each entrance.

Next, I'm assigned, with Lynne, to door 2.

2: Get the concession tent doors open and tied back.

3: Get the ticket podium into place.

4: Get the Symbol Technologies palm-based scanner (for e-tickets). Find it doesn't work. Get another one that seems to work.

5: Stand around just inside the black rope in full view of the public for 30m answering what few questions they have (most notably: What IS the Tapis Rouge, anyway?) and not looking like we're slacking.

6: 7pm: The gates open (for an 8pm show). Check and Rip tickets. Direct people to their door. Direct a couple of misplaced Tapis Rouge ticket holders to their tent. Tell everyone the Grand Chapiteau will open at 7:30.

7: Discover this scanner doesn't work, either. Fall back to just checking each eticket for date/time/door.

8: Occasionally check tickets of Tapis Rouge ticket holders who've come out to the plebian concessions tent for popcorn or hot dogs.

9: At 7:55, take the remaining tickets as fast as possible.

10: At 8:05, tell people that the show's started and they may not get to be seated immediately.

11: At 8:30ish, my partner goes on break.

12: At 8:45, take a couple more tickets.

13: At 8:50, put the ticket podium aside.

14: At 8:55, take another ticket.

15: At 9, move to the inner-side of the concession tent to work 'PR'... standing, looking helpful. Answering whatever questions are asked, etc.

16: At 9:20, ring a bell a bunch, along with 3 other Santas In Black, to summons folks back inside.

17: At 9:25, start sweeping up the inner courtyard.

18: At 9:35, go on break. Stop by the Adecco trailer to finally get my badge.

19: At 9:50, gather the booster seats to Door 8 where they're being stored in a new storage/distribution container, still under design.

20: At 10, be told "That's it, go clock out."

21: Be told to call tomorrow or Sunday for next week's shifts.

21: Come home. :)

When you went on brake did you go and eat dinner in the Cirque dinner tent? When I worked there the food was always good and cheap. In many cases it was an adventure in eating.

Rule 1 Be on time
Rule 2 Have Fun

The Cirque food truck is only available to us on 2 show days.

I do plan on trying it...

Doesn't sound too bad.

I now have one of those e-tickets that you won't be able to scan. :-)

My first day of being in concession is here... http://kimee.blog-city.com/read/754116.htm. Sounds like ushers have a much better job. I knew concession was going to suck but I didn't think it was going to suck this much.

I was also told different stories about the tickets. I was told that we would all get 4 free tickets for family & friends that we could trade for 2 VIP tickets if we wanted. Then I was told that we would all get to go to ONE show, paid & that's it. I don't know, what where you told?
