Email overwrite fixed?
Oct. 13th, 2004 04:05 pmDear LiveJournal user jbsegal,
We thank you for your patience in this matter. The information you've provided
has helped us identify the problem, which has now been fixed. Unfortunately,
there is no way to recover the entries which were overwritten, but you should no
longer experience the problem.
As a way of saying thank you for providing information which led to a fix, we'd
like to present you with a $10 coupon. This coupon can be applied to anything
"intangible" -- paid time, extra userpics, additional disk storage (in the
future); basically, everything but LiveJournal clothing.
. . . .
Thank you once again for your help in identifying, locating, and resolving this
problem. We apologize sincerely for the trouble.
Regards,
Denise Paolucci

Given that I was able to recover the entries and comments - though it was a PITA - this is a reasonably good resolution. I just wish there'd been better SQA&T before releasing the code in the 1st place.

Date: 2004-10-13 02:12 pm (UTC)nowhere that's reachable within two links from "www.livejournal.com," as far as i can tell. but, looking for it did lead me to a page that claimed that "problems using the new web posting form" were a "known issue" that is being worked on and no-one should bother filing issues about it; and one should look into downloading a client instead.
they have to be smoking something pretty strong to think that "use a more restricted, special-purpose interface" is a good answer to "the general-purpose interface is broken"-- for instance, no such client exists for my phone-- but they do have to work with what they've got. unfortunately "problems using the new web posting form" is such a vague description that i can't tell whether it covers the problem i'm having or not.
but i don't have to post from my phone; it's just very satisfying. so i guess i'll wait and see how it works out.
anyway, thanks. :) i haven't tried post-by-email... maybe i'll look into it.
