Is there any such thing as anti-perspirant for the scalp?

Yes, it's not something one'd want to use everyday, but there are some days that I really really want it... and I expect tomorrow'll be another one of them.

Go to a beauty supply store (yes, really) like a Sally's, and ask them for a small bottle of tea tree oil. You do not need pure tea tree oil; you need a hair oil that has tea tree oil in it.

Now, I know you are thinking to yourself, "Nooo! I'm not going to put oil on my scalp, and you can't make me!" but tea tree oil is special; among other things, it is frequently used as both an astringent and an antifungel. If you put just a little of it onto your scalp and don't overdo it, it will probably make you feel much better.

You can also get an astringent made with tea tree oil that actually has a little alcohol in it, but I don't recommend this if you have dry hair, although it feels fantastic on your scalp.

Hope this helps,
Harper

i've heard of people putting deoderant on their feet (feet may not get WET, but they do perspire and get stinky), so a spray antiperspirant could conceivably work on ones head as well. it would coat your hair though. if you were willing to experiment, you could see if any residue would brush out of your hair after it's dried. personally i'd dunk my head in water so my hair was always cool and wet before trying this method though.

i dunno about jb, but as a general rule, my hair is dripping wet long before i reach the sink. that's kinda the problem.

my hair is really long and i can get stinking hot at work; i assume the problem is that when it's hot your head gets sweaty and the moisture sticks close to your scalp, making it very uncomfortable. on the days when i'm running late and braid my hair straight out of the shower, i always feel much cooler because my hair stays wet for hours. it seems to avoid the sweaty head altogether--or at least i don't feel it.

even with my hair cut less than an inch long, my head will sweat so severely after relatively little exertion (like quietly browsing in a store) that i'll have sweat literally running down my face and my back.

but i don't think that's a normal sweating thing.

I've been thinking of starting to wear a bandana again, which I haven't done since perhaps High School. Or maybe getting one of those Survivor buffs....

Stupid LJ technology that I don't understand yet...ignore the subject line of the previous post. I don't know why it stayed there from another comment to another post. Sheesh.

I thought it was just me. I've always sweated a lot, but I've been noticing lately that any ridiculously small amount of exertion, like loading the dishwasher, or sometimes less than that, geez, sitting at a gaming table and playing a game tonight, causes me to drip sweat from my head - and my hair is fairly short as well. I wonder if it's an aging thing, or hormonal, or both.

It's really weird. I don't remember this happening before this year. I know that tea tree oil is good stuff as a deodorant (I use Jason's tea tree oil underarm deodorant and it's very good) but I've never heard of any kind of antiperspirant that would work on hair. I'll be interested to know the results of any experiments that y'all try out.

I sweat mostly from my scalp. Very annoying for an artist working with sweat dripping down your face and into your eyes. I can't wear hair products because they wind up in my eyes. Oh well, eh?

Not really, although you could try spritzing your scalp with anti-perspirant spray if you're feeling brave (drag queens in the south have been known to spray their faces prior to going out, but I don't recommend it). My only suggestion is to pull your hair back and, if possible, put it up--I know you might feel a bit silly with your hair in a bun of some sort, but the only way I can stand the heat at all is to get my goddamned hair OFF my neck and out of my face. It might also be worth all our whiles to check out those bandana thingys that you soak in water and wear around your neck that supposedly stay cold all day long due to fancy crystals or some such...

Damn, I hate hot weather...

Hrm. Antipersperant for the scalp? Not really... tea tree oil can help, as somebody mentioned (if you don't overdo it) - some people suggest combing corn starch or fine powder through your hair to absorb the oils (again, don't overdo it - and not helpful when you're still sweating buckets) - but my favourite remedy has got to be wearing a hat and (light) scarf underneath it. A nice straw works wonders.

I do sympathize with the over-sweatiness, I'm sure it sucks really badly. I will offer, as a sort of consolation, the view from the other side: Me, I practically never sweat. Even in high summer, I can sometimes reasonably wear the same T-shirt two days in a row. Sounds nice, eh? I can walk around in the heat of the day, not sweating much at all, and then, suddenly, black out from heat. Sweat, in moderation, is your friend.

hrm. i think that a ponytail plus a bandana or hat would be a more healthy solution. if you sweat that much, somehow your body thinks you need to be cooled mucho quick. trying to stop the sweat may do damage to you.
