Please don't answer this one unless you're sure.
Feel free to run out to your nearest ATM to check. I'll wait.

What's secondary checking? You have two checking things associated with one account? Or do you have a second, unrelated checking account that they happen to recognize belongs to you? Or is it some bizarre thing your bank has spontaneously decided you have?

I don't believe I'm set up with any of those, but I'll look next time I go.

I /did/ have 2 checking things associated with one account.

Now, for various reasons, I just have the 2nd, and I have an ATM card that's proving less useful than I might like. :/

It depends on what you mean by an option. I don't think that I've yet met a Canadian ATM where there wasn't an option for "other" account, under which may be found any account (with that chain of banks) that one chooses to have associated there.

An aside: I'm planning to attend Baitcon.

Please send mail to rsvp at baitcon dotorg?

Thanks!

I think I have seen something of the sort at Century Bank ATMs but it definitely wasn't the last ATM I used.

i must add here that my answer is a sampling anomaly; you just happened to ask at exactly the right time to get a "yes". *none* of the 10 or so ATMs i regularly use have this option. i probably use that ATM at wainwright once or twice a year. I've only seen one other ATM that gave me that option, about 2 years ago. Also in cambridge, but i don't remember where.

Both times i've been annoyed at it. The wainwright screen gave me the option of *3* accounts. I only have 2 at the bank whose card i was using. They were not identified in any way other than "primary", "secondary", etc. What the heck does that mean? The other ATM that did this to me also did not identify the accounts in any way. This meant that i needed to then waste time after my withdrawal on my cell phone using the "manage your accounts by phone" system to make sure i got the cash from the correct account.

The MITFCU ATM in the lobby of E19 gives me a choice of three accounts, if I remember right.

"Checking", "Checking", and "Checking".

I think I decided that the first one was actually the checking account.

That's hopeful, as I'm near a MITFCU atm weekly...

Near as I can tell, any place that lets you associate 2 checking accts with one account usually designates one 'primary' and one 'secondary'.

For various reasons, I now have ONLY a secondary account, along with a much-less-useful ATM card.

It may be that your bank will reset your card to recognize whichever account you want as whichever name (as presented by ATMs) you want.

I have no idea. I've never had more than one checking account at a time.

I did have to specifically sign-up my non-primary checking and my savings account to be accessible from the atm. Nothing other than primary checking was available before that.

I believe the Wainwright in Davis has that option. Whichever the newest bank is, a couple of doors down from J-Tree.

I also get secondary savings, even tho I only have 1 checking and 1 savings.
