Anyone have any suggestions for a decent, but reasonably priced champagne, one to go in to a champagne cocktail?

Thanks

I rather like Korbel Chardonnay Champagne. A bit of a twist to the regular flavor of champagne, and very reasonably priced.

I like Domaine Ste. Michelle Blanc de Blanc.

Buy a Cava instead. They're from Catalunya, made using the same method, cheaper, and tast better in the price range, IMHO.

I generally just buy Frelixinet. ...but then again, I drink mass-market beer out of cans, so apparently my opinion is suspect.

We use Asti spumanti for the sweetish-fruity drinks and I think this year we grabbed Korbel for the dry drinks.

Spanish cavas (like Frexinet) are generally nasty straight, but can pass in a mixed drink if need be. If you're looking in the under $10 range, that's a good bet.

Honestly if it's to go into a cocktail, I don't think you really need a really good champy. I wouldn't buy the cheapest but certainly wouldn't stress over quality of something that is basically going into a mixed drink.

Buy local fizzy wine! Massachusetts has its very own fizzy wine maker in Westport Rivers Vineyard and Winery. I've had most of their varieties, and I like them a lot better than most fizzy wines, Champagnes or otherwise. One of their cheaper ones, like the 2002 Brut Cuvee (admittedly, at $20/bottle, not that cheap) will probably be quite suitable for the cocktail.

Can I offer to GIVE you some! PLEASE!! I'll hand a bottle to any member of your household that comes to Skreeky's holiday party tomorrow if you want. See, I'm allergic to the sulfides and people keep giving me bottles. There are at least 3 of them loitering in our bar right now and they should be drunk by someone who will enjoy them. So please, take my champagne!

We'll take it. Laurie and Iago will certainly be at Kriss & Jon's. Kimberly and I may or may not be.

Thanks!

I find Korbel, prosecco, and most Astis too sweet. Agree with suggestion that you don't need a "decent" (by my standards) Champagne if you're going to be mixing it. Agree that a Cava, Freixenet in particular, would be a good choice. Also Paul Cheneau or Segura Viudas (sp?). Really any decent cava would be my suggestion. Costco usually has Freixenet at a decent price, as does Trader Joe's.

But... why mix it? Get a bottle or two of Bollinger NV and just drink that.
