Ok, the poll last week was flawed. I'm going to re-do it, more-or-less using [livejournal.com profile] charleshaynes' suggested work-up from the comments.

Notes: "strong gender preference" = Kinsey 0-1ish, 5ish-6
"weak gender preference" = Kinsey 1ish-2, 4-5ish
"no gender preference" = Kinsey 3

I also know that many people consider there to be more than 2 genders. Use your best judgment if you fall outside the standard set of answers I provide here.

Oh, and as last time: By 'kiss', I mean: more than a peck or more than you'd do with family... not necessarily all the way to making out, but more along that line than the former.

I could not successfully answer the poll as well as choose "Clicky!". I feel sad.

Yeah, I realized after that I probably should've made that a separate question.

That said, I didn't actually expect anyone to answer as you did. Care to comment?

Uh.... cause I clicked the wrong button (fixed now). I blame not enough caffiene.

The word "smooches" is really ... not a favorite of mine. This is a recent discovery, perhaps because I cannot remember you ever using that word around/with me :)

huh. i'm very fond of it, personally :)

i think partly because one's mouth makes kissing motions when one says it, which it doesn't when one says "kiss"...

However, I'll note that gender preference isn't necessarily constant, which conflates some potentially interestingly different states.

For example, "I have a strong gender preference, and have kissed both" doesn't necessarily mean I've kissed people who were of the 'wrong' gender when I kissed them... although it might mean that.

This turns out not to matter for me... the strength of my gender preferences has changed over time, but I've kissed both genders pretty much independently of it. But I figured I'd mention it.

hmm, perhaps the middle set of options should have been "I have a weak or variable gender preference". Not that I think those two things are equivalent but I don't know how else to combine things without making a new category for "variable".

well, it depends on what you want to find out.
if what you're interested in is the relationship between the people one has kissed and one's gender preference at the time when the kissing happened, one could just say that.

JB your friends appear to be indiscriminate, promiscuous, sluts.

What a surprise.

right, because you're obviously a slut if you've kissed people of multiple genders.

...and what we can conclude from this is that most of your friends, regardless of orientation, have kissed people of both genders :)
shocking.

well, i'm pretty sure you know this already, but i'd call myself a Kinsey 1, and i've full-on made out with both men and women. mostly because for some reason when i was in my early 20s, every bi-curious girl i knew decided she wanted to experiment... on ME. why me? i still don't know. did they think i was a closet case? did they think i could be trusted not to take things too far? only the Shadow knows for sure.

i'm kinda curious where this question came from in the first place.

and now i will actually get back to work.

there's only two genders? (implied by your use of "both genders") I know quite a few people in the middle, who are happy to stay that way. (not that I expect you to redo the poll a third time!). that's why I like the term omnisexual, instead of bisexual.

gender preference how? I'd say I'm more or less equally attracted to men and women, but I have so many problems communicating with women that I tend to avoid dating them. and while kissing is not dating, I do find I've kissed less women than men at least partly due to the fact that while kissing doesn't always lead to a relationship, relationship rarely if ever (*for me*) happen without kissing.

not that any of this especially changes my response, but I felt it was worth noting.

you mean the women were skinnier? ;)

(sorry, sorry, less/fewer is one of my twitches and I couldn't resist!)

"Capture the mind and the body will follow."

I have a strong gender based bias, BUT it's usually situational as to which gender, and how I "relate" to the specific member of that gender is based almost entirely on gender.
