So, Friday night I came home in a bad mood and that, combined with the remote system on my car freaking out a few days before and me not dealing meant that I left my car unlocked on the street outside my house.

This morning I came out and figured this out because my car had been lightly ransacked, but no window was broken.
The Glove box had been emptied, the shit in the back seat had been somewhat re-shoveled. Stuff like that.

For the most part nothing had been taken. The change was still in its drawer, the 2 different 1/8" stereo->FM transmitter frobs were left behind, etc. etc.

Eventually I noticed the thing that was missing... the extra Baitcon shirts that had been riding around in the back of my car waiting for me to deal with them.

So, if you see anyone around Camberville that has a Baitcon shirt who shouldn't? Yeah... take a picture. Call me. Something.

{sigh}

Did they leave anything? My car was broken into one time and they took a jacket and left a sweater. A friend explained it as having something to do with an honor code among people stealing necessary items that they couldn't afford to buy.

How Annoying

And Persis wonders why I'm so insistent about locking my car.

Sigh.

When my car was broken into in Baltimore, they didn't take the stereo, the change, the cds, or anything like that.

They took my half-finished needlepoint project and a pair of hairsticks.

Someone I knew used to leave her car unlocked deliberately in Brooklyn rather than deal with the cost of broken windows. Somebody broke a quarter window anyway.

Um. Ooookaaayyy...

I read this to J and he looked as confused as I must have looked. And he said, 'well, THAT's random'.

Maybe think of it as advertising if folks start wearing the shirts? It could go viral!

Useless this time, but for future reference:

According to my sister-in-law who spent a few years in Jamaica Plain, an open box of tampons on the front seat is a remarkable thief-repellent...

Oh, crimony...I'm so sorry.

Back when I was broken into 3 years ago (partially my own fault, as I left the kitchen window open a small amount; I didn't think anyone could push it open from outside as it's rather heavy & sticks...), did they take the digital camera in plain view, or the checkbook? Oh, hell, no...they made off w/most of my jewelry (ALL costume jewelry, and therefore only of sentimental value to me; I'm STILL pissed about that), and my Lane Bryant credit card from out of my underwear drawer (after scattering most of the contents, including other cards...). Yep, I'm sure that crackhead got real far w/a fat chick's clothing store credit card...

Was your registration still there? My car was broken into once and the registration was the only thing stolen. Then someone filed a fraudulent insurance claim against me using it.

All of them were, yes - years of old ones, and the current one.

I often suspect adding more noise into a system makes it safer. Electronically I know security through obscurity is crap, but in the real world? It works. :)

Odd to take just the shirts.

I had a car broken into years ago, locked in my driveway, they took the stereo and most annoyingly my coat (I often take it off to drive) They left the laptop, the radar detector and the cellphone (old style bag phone)

I don't often lock the Miata, I don't leave anything of value in it, I would rather they just take the $70 stereo rather than rip the over $500 to replace roof.

My car was broken into and I could find nothing that had been taken... however they removed everything from the car and put it in the driveway. Even the 45 gal aquarium that was in the trunk....then they left all the doors open. I had a heck of a time putting the aquarium back in.

As to taking the shirts... I bet you find them on ebay. LOL
