Given this:
A new series year designation will result from a change in the Secretary of the Treasury; the Treasurer of the United States; and/or a significant change to the note's appearance such as a new currency design.

Shouldn't these 2 bills be 2 different series??

Could it be that both bills came out in 2006?

That same page has a pdf listing series and prefix info and doesn't list a series 2006a at all, just 2 series 2000s. That was my first thought, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Forgive me - I'm not American and don't handle the currency enough to keep on top of what the markers for counterfeit currency are,.
