... that I'm asking for myself now.

I'm fantasizing today. Let's say you had NO IDEA what I do for work (which is probably true of most of you), and all you knew was that I wanted a change of career.

What real, achievable thing in the world should I be doing instead? Something that plays to my strengths and allows me to make something, somewhere more awesome just by showing up and being ME at it.

Game designer, or maybe party planner, or some combination of the two.

I don't know the name for this, but one of the people whose job it is on cruise ships to make sure that nobody is sitting by themselves in a corner unless they want to. Not just a planner of activities, but someone who personally goes and digs the wallflowers out of the wallpaper and points them at people or activities that they might like.

I dunno. People on cruise ships tend toward the more mainstream, and I suspect you'd be asked to change your style of dress and hair to take a job like this. I can't imagine you being happy doing this.

Now doing a similar job in an itinerant capacity at cons, THAT I can see you doing.

I've never been on a cruise ship, but I've heard that they tend to be casual; I thought Hawaiian shirts would fit right in. :-)

The sad part of doing the same thing for cons is that nobody gets paid to do such a job THERE.

Casual, but very, very vanilla. Hawaiian shirts would be fine. Crazy hair, not so much. Geeky demeanor, definitely not. Letting ANYONE know you're poly, absolutely positively no. The two times I went on cruises, my partner and I got no end of grief from our table mates when they learned we were living together but NOT MARRIED (eep!)

Social Director: e.g., Gale Storm's character Suzannah Pomeroy from "The Gale Storm Show: Oh, Suzannah!".

And just remember ANY Baitcon. You do this well, although it occupies much of your time for a year, JB, maybe you should look into being on this inside. Maybe even in a Hotel with a Fannish Clientele. With the right career choices, you--yes you-- could be Arisia's inside-man.

Radio Announcer ... or doing your own podcasts of favorite books. Dance teacher. Yeah, I know, you need to earn a reasonable salary ...

Erin throws in "playing with kids!" and offers you another froot loop from her necklace or half her milk as payment.

Singing. You have a wonderful, deep, sexy singing voice that you ought to use more often.

Great suggestions have already been offered: radio announcer, event talent, musician, social director, dance teacher. Something where most of your energy involves being present and friendly in the moment, not so much with carrying work home with you. *HUG* Love!

Let's say some other day, perhaps end of this week? I have a sinus infection which used to be allergic rhinitis :-(. I'm getting drugs for it tomorrow or Tuesday and should be feeling much better by week's end.

you know better than many :) that lunch with me these days could be a somewhat... interrupted? affair; take that into account when envisioning what we might accomplish.
