So, we have this DVD recorder.
Some while ago - while it was still under warranty - it started failing to write discs; it'd start and then, some time into the process, it would throw disc errors and fail. This happened no matter what the media.
So we sent it back to Phillips and they swapped out the drive mechanism and all was fine... for a while.
It started doing the same thing again.
I expected the drive to be an FRU. I didn't expect it to be other than a reasonably normal ATAPI device. I was wrong, at least on the 2nd.
The drive is a "VAE8020/02".
Google offers no help on where to purchase one, at least not in english.
Ebay, too, is no help.
I'm... shocked.
Where should I be looking for one? Who should I be asking, if not you, oh dear reader? Do I have a prayer of getting it outside of going back to Philips and paying a whole lot of money if they'll even sell it to me in the 1st place?
The recorder's a DVDR985/172, if that'll help...
